Studio Blog: February 2011 WIPs

Here’s what I’ve been working on lately. Excuse the crappy phone pics- I’ll have clear, high quality shots up when they’re all finished (and none of them are quite yet)!

Unfinished Female Portrait by Alizey Khan

Acrylic on canvas, 30″x30″: This is just an underpainting for now, and I’m going to block in the background as well before I start with the pointillism… I really want this to be traditionally beautiful but have surreal elements that disturb and unsettle the viewer a little.

I was going for the same sort of effect with this painting depicting The Slender Man abducting a hapless victim in a foggy forest… Still very unfinished, I need to hide the Slender Man and his victim in the mist more.

I haven’t measured this canvas yet… I actually didn’t buy it- I pulled it out of the trash in my apartment, my neighbour decided to discard her attempt at painting rather than sticking with it, and I got a lovely pre-textured canvas in the process!

Starry Night
Acrylic, 20″x24″
This is more decorative… It’s a river at night. I love the way the slightest amount of light glimmers at night, especially around water. The photo doesn’t do it justice though- the ground is a very deep purplish blue, and the pale parts of the sky you see are iridescent highlights thinly laid over it. Hopefully it’ll show up better in the HQ pics!

What do you think? Any suggestions? Thematic suggestions for future pieces?
